Most news services on TV and/or online are funded by advertisements and carriage fees. Therefore, their main sources of revenue are directly tied to how many times you click and/or how long you tune in. In order to maximize the number of clicks and time spent tuning in, they must spend most of their time entertaining you, giving way to the current state of the news landscape. With a paywall, it is a direct measure of our success if you subscribe. It takes a lot of convincing to get you to take out your wallet and enter payment information. The convincing will come through the quality of our stories, content, and information.
Can't I Just Use The App To Get Weather Information?
Yes, but it only goes so far. Horizon Weather is designed with this in mind. The traditional weather segment of standing up and giving the 7-day forecast is useless in the era of apps. However, the apps fail when the weather gets complicated during major events such as hurricanes, fire weather, blizzards, severe storms, etc. Not to mention, there are stories behind the weather. When the it turns nasty, an app will not give you a picture of what is happening on the ground, an app cannot be that reassuring voice guiding you through a major event. An app cannot tell you why something is important. That is the goal of Horizon Weather, to bring the picture, be the guide, and help you understand what is going on in the world around us both good and bad.
